
Daniela Ermano was born on 14 August 1960 in Cividale del Friuli, Italy and live in Lisbon, Portugal. In 1988 she was graduated by IUAV – University Institute of Architecture, Venice (Italy). In the same year, 1988, she was qualified to exercise the profession of Architect, after obtaining title in the State Exam carried out in the IUAV. From 1988 to 1993 she was a member of the Architects Council of the Province of Udine (Italy), under No. 802. Since 1993 enrolled in the Portuguese Architects Council, with No. 5173.
In 1989 she was “Cultore della Materia” in the IUAV with the annual course of “Urban Project” with the Prof. Dr. Architect Franco Berlanda. From 2005 to 2011 she was Invited Assistant Professor at project courses for the 3rd/4th/5th/ Year of ULHT (Lusophone University of Humanity and Technologies), in Lisbon (Portugal).
Since 1988 she has developed a wide and complex professional activity in the field of architecture and urbanism.
In 1993 the Project (carried out) of the “Casa Fernando Pessoa” was awarded by the Portuguese Architects Council as the best Architecture Project of the Year.
In 2017 she received the Valmor and Municipal Architecture Award, Honorable Mention, Year 2014 for the Project (held) of the Lisbon Museum, Teatro Romano.
Didactic activity and scientific research, seminars and conferences
In 1988, selected by the IUAV, she has participated in the Residential Seminary of INEAA (Institut Europèen d’Aménagement et d’Architecture) in the City of Rouen in France, with the Responsible Prof. Architect D. Pini and the coordinator Prof. Architect A. Marguccio both from the IUAV.
From the years 1990 to 2004 she develops didactic activity (classes and seminars) in the area of the Urban Project in the Laboratory of Planning of the Territory (coordinated by Professor Architect A. Marguccio), Venice, Italy, collaborating in activities of research Unit “Scenarios and alternatives in The Design and Planning” of the “Department of Design and Planning in Complex Environments”, IUAV, Italy.
In March 2002, she was invited by the Venice University of Architecture for a conference and Seminar about the significant interventions in the city of Lisbon.
In the years 2002 and 2003 she was part of the College of Teachers of Project Work 2002/2003 Lisbon/Venice (ULHT – IUAV) in the Undergraduate Course of “Scienze della Pianificazione Urbana e Territoriale”, Department of Planning, IUAV, Venice.
In June 2003, she was invited in the framework of “Coimbra National Capital of Culture” to hold a Seminar on Heritage and Development “Interventions in Historical Zones”, Integration problems “Versus the Marking of The Time”.
From 2005 to 2011, she become Invited Assistant Professor at the Lusophone University of Humanity and Technology (ULHT), for the 3rd /4th /5th’s Year with the yearly course of Project (with inherent themes of Cultural Centers dedicated to “Culture and Futurism”, Projects dedicated to meditation “Places of Worship”, Projects of Reconversion/Requalification of Relevant Urban Areas (e.g. Alvalade in the city of Lisbon).
Professional Activity: main works carried out and projects.
From 1988 onwards she has collaborated with several Architecture and Engineering studio offices based in Udine and Tolmezzo Italy, developing drafting urban plans (Municipal Master Plans and Detail Plans) and architectural projects in the tourism/hotel sector, as well as equipment projects dedicated to leisure and leisure time.
In 1989, integrated into a Scientific Team, she has collaborated in the organization with the IUAV (University Institute of Architecture of Venice) of an exhibition on the City of Lisbon with the title “The Modernizations of Lisbon”. The Exhibition was presented at the International Fair of Lisbon (F.I.L.) with a colloquium/debate on the subject.
Since 1990 and for several years, under the COMETT Programme (Community cooperation programme between universities and companies in the technology training sector), she develops and coordinates, in the area of Architecture and Urbanism, the “Integrated Project of the Roman Theatre of Lisbon and the Surrounding Urban context” (framework cooperation between the IUAV and the Lisbon’s Mairie).
From 1990 to 1994, representing the IUAV under the COMETT Program, she also coordinates project activities developed by other IUAV fellows in the Lisbon and Loures City Mairies.
As independent professional she provides consultancy in the area of Architecture to different entities with emphasis on the Lisbon City Mairie in the preparation of several projects of interest to the city, namely remodeling public libraries, Social, Cultural and Sports Equipments.
Under Lisbon 94 project (Lisboa – European Capital of Culture), Commissioner of the Exhibition “Pessoanos Labyrinths”, by the painter Gaudenzio Nazario, held at Casa Fernando Pessoa, having designed and coordinated the realization of the facilities for the exhibition.

Co-author with Arch. João Paulo Bessa and Landscaper Arch.Prof. Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles of the Martim Moniz Square in Lisbon.
Collaborates in the Elaboration of the project and works for the Exhibitions of the Centenary of the Portuguese Republic in three historical relevant different buildings in Lisbon (Cordoaria Nacional, Manor towers of Terreiro do Paço, and in XIX school Building in Largo do Carmo).
She is also the author of the Architecture Project of the Maria de Lurdes de Castro Alvellos Foundation in Tomar.

She also carried out projects of exhibition galleries, medical clinic centers specialized in physiotherapy, schools, villas, restoration and rehabilitation of apartments, buildings and provides technical consulting. Currently she is developing studies on accessibility and urban issues.
