Archive and Library - Mário Soares Foundation (Lisbon)

It is a project of multiple complexities at the cultural/technical/architectural levels.

The Library Archive of the Mário Soares Foundation in Lisbon (FMS), was carried out in a space whose geometric composition was extremely difficult to achieve due to the peculiar design of the plot where the current Building is inserted (long batch in the longitudinal direction, narrow in the width – gothic – as well as disjointed); one of the objectives and priority assumptions of the FMS Program, was to ensure the safeguarding of the patrimony of documentary arrangements, consisting of both the personal collection of President Mário Soares, as well as other documentation relating to “National and International Contemporary History”, and all conditions for restoration and conservation work in this “documentary” area among others, as well as provide the public with access to scientific research, through the implementation of reading room consisting of appropriate/own research infrastructures.

This Equipment is also equipped with: a Photographic Archive including support rooms suitable for this function; an Auditoriumwith two cabins for simultaneous translation; a space for Temporary Exhibitions; specific offices for research/restoration work; administrative offices; sanitary facilities also for people with reduced mobility; from an outdoor patio at different altimetric dimensions, providing access to all floors of the Building.

The entire surface of the FMS Library Archive was thought and designed without architectural barriers, respecting and complying with safety standards in force.
